Living in a big city like Rome can be too much at times. There are many beautiful sites in Rome, like the Pantheon and the Colosseum. But when they become part of your daily life, they can lose their appeal. Anyone who’s ever wanted a change of pace should hear about Tivoli, a fun day trip that’s great for getting away from the hectic life of Rome.
When my two girlfriends came to visit, they told me about this great place to go. A quick search on TikTok showed how beautiful Tivoli is. It’s a town in the countryside about an hour from Rome. We booked our train tickets the night before because we just felt like going on a whim. Since it was a regional train, the round-trip ticket cost less than €10, which is a great deal!
There was magic in the train ride itself. It felt like the stress of city life was melting away with each mile as we drove through the rolling hills and lush farmland. With each look at the beautiful scenery, we got more and more excited, and we couldn’t wait to discover all of Tivoli’s secrets.
Villa d’Este was our first stop. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its beautiful grounds and fountains. We got lucky because we went on the first Sunday of every month, which is free to enter museums in Rome. It felt like going back in time as I walked through the house. The beautifully designed gardens, waterfalls that fell, and buildings were a feast for the eyes and ears. We spent hours taking pictures of every angle of the house because it was so beautiful.
Tivoli had more to offer than just beautiful views. It was nice to have life move more slowly there. The people there were so friendly and helpful, which was very different from the rushed crowds in Rome. Also, the food and drinks were great. There was fresh pasta, wine from the area, and sweets that just melted in your mouth. It was even more special to eat outside, with the peaceful hills of Tivoli all around us.
The care we got at Villa d’Este was a pleasant surprise. Other tourists were interested and even took pictures of us, which made our day more fun and memorable.
The trip had just the right amount of excitement and rest. In the morning, we left Rome and went on an adventure. By the time it got dark, we were back in the city. Tivoli wasn’t just a nice change of scenery; it also reminded us of the wonderful places we can find just outside of cities.
I can’t say enough good things about Tivoli if you’re in Rome and want to get away. It shows that the best trips are sometimes the ones that are spontaneous.
