Hey everyone,
I’m new to this thread, so nice meeting you all ?
I have recently completed my University and have secured myself a one-year paid internship at a solid company. I have been in for over a month now and I am grateful to be a part of a global firm and working alongside some of the best individuals in the field. Overall, it has been a great experience that I am proud of.
However, I cannot help but feel incompetent at work. Despite showing progress over the last few weeks and having a good relationship with everyone around me, I feel like I am still behind in many aspects. I’ll get comfortable with doing certain task and then be introduced something new that I need to learn from scratch again. Many of my tasks revolve around data and dealing with ambiguity. I would run these tasks just fine, only to find little discrepancies here and there, which as my boss said, is forgivable, but I am yet to figure out how to fix these mistakes.
I’ve had a handful of “perfect” days where I’d do everything right no problem, but most days there have always been something (formula errors, formatting issues, wrong dates, system crashes, etc) which frustrates me, because I am new and I would like to present my best self, especially with a probation period.
My boss and managers have been very helpful and supportive, fixing certain issues and telling me to not stress, but I feel bad that I am not perfect at my work. Honestly, I have been told by my manager that in a few months I’ll start doing my tasks “with my eyes closed” and i s merely just due to me adjusting to the system and everything, but I would like some tips to be better. I have asked for feedback and had a catchup with my manager but he did not have any specific feedback as it is too early to tell. I feel like I am the type of person to inform my managers issues and updates, but have no real solution to fix them. I really don’t know how to deal with ambiguity.
I guess I am looking for any advice or tips from those who have been in my shoes or are in management and have dealt with people like me before. What should I do to improve? I am a little concerned as this is a prestigious company with a 6-month probationary period and I am in finance, one of the most important departments in the company. I do not want to mess this up. Thank you in advance.
