Student Ambassador Maya Koka escapes to the Howth Cliffs during exam season, trading stress for stunning views and fresh sea air. With every step along the cliffside, she finds clarity and inspiration amidst nature’s beauty.
Ah, the exam season—a tumultuous time when philosophy papers multiply like rabbits, and the mere mention of ‘Descartes’ sends shivers down my spine. As a single honours philosophy student at Trinity College Dublin, navigating the intricate web of existential questions only becomes more intense during exam season. Picture this: stacks of books threatening to topple over, coffee cups multiplying far too quickly, and the ever-present fear of an existential crisis looming over your head (aka the philosopher’s version of a horror film). Yet, amidst the chaos of exams, there’s a secret weapon I’ve discovered to maintain sanity—the comfort of Howth’s Cliffs.
I discovered this secret last year after I was in search of a mental break following my first college exam. Armed with nothing but a backpack, a thermos of cold water, and the determination to gain a clear mind, I embarked on an adventure to the cliffs of Howth. The moment I stepped onto the trail, the exam anxiety I was once feeling so heavily began to dissipate. The air was crisp with the scent of salt, and seagulls provided the perfect soundtrack to my philosophical escape. The initial moment I saw the sight of the cliffs against the backdrop of the Irish Sea was a visual reminder of why I chose to study in Ireland. As I strolled along the cliffside path, the breathtaking views of emerald-green hills and the vast expanse of the Irish Sea turned my thoughts from categorical imperatives to the sheer beauty of Ireland.
These outdoor escapes have become my personal therapy sessions, a remedy for the academic stress of exam season. Whether it’s the soothing sounds of the wind on the cliffs of Howth or the panoramic views of the Ring of Kerry, each outing feels like a discovery, a cherished chapter in my study abroad experience. Moreover, I’ve learned to embrace the unpredictable Irish weather, finding joy in the moments when the sun breaks through the clouds, casting a golden glow on the vibrant landscapes. I appreciate Ireland’s natural landscapes and the captivating narratives they tell. For me, Ireland’s natural wonders consistently captivate my senses, reinforcing my decision to call Ireland my home. Since moving abroad, some of my most memorable moments have been filled with outdoor adventures. However, Ireland’s natural beauty is not just a backdrop; it’s a safe haven away from the stress of academics. In every hill climbed and every shoreline explored, I have found comfort in my newfound home.
