Just a little vent session here because this situation has left me so bamboozled. I can’t find any other word to describe it lmao.
Context: I’m an independent marketing contractor working for a small company everything was great until I had to take time off for a tonsillectomy (surgery on Friday yay ?)
My doctor told me explicitly 10-14 days off work to which I relayed that to my boss 3 weeks ago and she was incredibly disrespectful saying “that she knows people who have gotten them done and they’re fine in a couple days and that 10-14 days in a lot of time off she gets not being able to talk but I can do desk work”.
It didn’t sit well with me but I moved on I got the time off unpaid so I didn’t care. I go to my weekly meeting two weeks ago and my boss and I have a different opinion on a social media giveaway. I suggested we do a new years giveaway but she wanted to do an early December giveaway. She called my giveaway idea “disrespectful” to the team. I literally don’t even know why, I’m guessing she assumed I wanted them to participate over the holiday? (Reposting the giveaway to their Instagram).
So I was slightly visibly agitated and said we can do whatever you want. The next day I get called into a meeting for my “attitude”. To which I then expressed the only thing I wasn’t happy with was comments made about my surgery.
This escalated into my boss interrupting me, implying I was lying about the comments she made etc. I ended the conversation saying this meeting is going nowhere. I then get an email that I need to be humble because they’ve given me two raises (both well deserved). I have scored the best possible scores on all my evaluations at my company. I’ve boosted the company metrics this year in marketing by upwards of 2.7k% in some areas. I raised every single stat this year due to my efforts were in the green on every KPI.
Two days later everything gets settled. Then this week a piece of content I made got approved. I posted it and then I get a text saying to remove it and re-edit it. Okay fine. I repost it again. The next day I get another text to re edit it with preference based edits which WHY WERENT THEY GIVEN TO ME IN PRE APPROVAL?!
So at this point I’ve had enough it’s 2 days before my surgery and I can’t be this stressed. I send in my resignation to finish out the holiday season to which I get an email back that Friday the day of my surgery is my last day to which I reply back I quit today. What the hell is a two day notice going to do for me?
I left a bunch of unfinished projects so I hope they have fun with that <3. I also realize I never want to work in a role that requires me to read someone’s mind ever again. I can’t tell what color or font my boss favors that day and I can’t be in a job that’s not autonomous anymore.
