Studying abroad in Torino, Italy, offers an incredible opportunity to explore Europe on a budget. With access to a local airport and train station, planning trips becomes an exciting and affordable adventure. Here are some recommendations based on my experiences traveling around Europe:
1. Budget-Friendly Bus Travel
Buses are a fantastic way to travel around Europe on a budget. They offer an affordable way to get from city to city. For example, I frequently used buses to travel from Torino to Milan and even from Amsterdam to Brussels. There are many bus companies to choose from, so be sure to check their websites for the best deals.
2. Convenient Train Travel
Europe’s public transport system is top-tier, and trains are a convenient way to get around. One of the biggest advantages of train travel is the ability to show up just five minutes before departure and hop on, avoiding the hassle of busy airports. During my time in Italy, I visited numerous cities and even traveled to the south of France using the train system. Additionally, traveling by train or bus allows you to enjoy the scenic countryside and reduces carbon emissions, making it a more sustainable option.
3. Using Skyscanner for Cheap Flights
Skyscanner is an excellent website for finding cheap flights from any airport on any given day. It allows you to be flexible with your destination and timeframe, making it easy to find affordable travel options. I used Skyscanner frequently to determine the cheapest cities to visit and the best times to go. It’s a convenient tool that can help you save a lot on airfare.
4. Budget Airlines
Europe is home to many budget airlines, such as Ryanair, which offer quick and affordable flights between countries. Since European countries are often only one to three hours apart by plane, flying can be a great way to get around. To save money, I recommend traveling with a good-sized backpack to avoid extra fees for carry-on luggage. This way, I managed to score round-trip flights for less than $50!
5. Embrace Public Transport
Finally, don’t underestimate the value of public transport within cities. Buses, trains, and subways are efficient and budget-friendly options for getting around. They also offer a chance to see more of the country and experience local life.
Studying abroad in Torino gave me the chance to explore Europe in ways I never imagined. With these tips, you can maximize your travel experiences while keeping costs low. Happy traveling!
