Lack of common sence and corporate bullshit at McDonald's.

Did you have any similar experience while you worked in fast food restaurant or retail?

I worked at McDonald’s and I am really happy to leave this fucking job. The job itself is not so bad, but the management in my restaurant was really awful. Here are some examples from McDonald’s were I worked:

  1. I must filter oil, and the filter container must be clean. I controlled the container and saw there a lot of “sand” and dirt, so it was necessary to clean it, otherwise the filter process would not function at all. I took the container and brought it to the sink. Manager: “Why are you taking the container to the sink?” (It was obvious that it was really dirty) Me: “It is dirty and I can’t filter the oil.” Manager: “Don’t waste your time and put the container back.” Me: “But how…” Manager: “Do what I tell you!”

I put the dirty container back and logically the filter process did not unction at all. The manager came to me and asked why it doesn’t function and what I did wrong.

  1. I was really quickly and effective at toaster and if I had shift in the kitchen managers asked me to work on toaster.

General manager told me that the way I am working on toaster is wrong and is not compatible with McDonald’s – standard. But working according to standard is not effective at all and slows everything down. I did everything like the general manager said, than other managers asked me why I work slowlier as usual and why I chose such an inefficient way of work.

  1. The most important thing in McDonald’s were I worked were waiting time statistics and managers were very strict about that.

According to common sense we must give orders on drive through window. But we ask drivers to park the vehicle 10 meters away, and then we walk 10 meters to the car and 10 meters back. It is not necessary at all, but we are obliged to cheat on statistics. We park vehicles in the area where camera doesn’t see the car and computer thinks that the car drove away, then we have better statistics.

What is the sence of statistics when it is so easy to manipulate them?

  1. Latte Macchiato and Cappuccino consist of milk and espresso, but the order is different. By LM you put at first milk, then espresso. By Cappuccino vice versa – at first espresso, then milk.

I had an appointment with HR because I was not working according to McDonald’s – standard and they didn’t like it. On next day one customer in drive through ordered latte Macchiato, but my manager told me to make Cappuccino because it is quicker and the customer will not see the difference.

I have a lot of other examples how stupid and shitty the management in that place was.

May be you can give some examples of your workplace bullshit? Especially reditors who worked in retail or fast food.
