My Top 5 Places to Eat in Leeds

When it comes to food, Leeds offers modern bistros, cozy cafes, and lively pubs. I’m a foodie, so I enjoy eating out and pay a great deal of attention to where I spend my money. In my 2 months here, I have gathered five places that stood out to me out for their tasty options and welcoming atmosphere.

Sonder

As a quiet cafe located in the bustling city center, Sonder is a hidden gem. They offer a variety of coffees and hot chocolates, but with the cold autumn weather, it felt most appropriate to get the hot chocolate with caramel and toasted marshmallow. The caramel flavor was prominent without being overly sweet and the coziness created the ideal atmosphere for sitting down and having chatting with my friends.

La Cafetiere Leeds

The first place in Leeds I dined out at was La Cafetiere Leeds. My buddy and I had been walking around Hyde Park and randomly decided to walk in to eat, and I am glad we did. It is the perfect spot for breakfast or brunch with a delightful range of options, from classic eggs Benedict to indulgent wraps. We split an English breakfast and shawarma, and both were fresh and filling. I had never tried beans on toast expecting to not like it, but I was proven wrong. The tomato sauce is slightly sweet and pairs well with the beans. Serves as a good reminder to keep an open mind with foods you haven’t tried.

Crowd of Favours

We went to Crowd of Favours for my roommates birthday looking for a traditional Sunday Roast, and it did not disappoint. The historic pub serves comforting pub classics like fish and chips, alongside creative dishes like nduja croquettes with gochujang sauce. However, we were focused on getting a traditional meal and got Sunday roast with some of its classic sides. The perfectly cooked meat was served with crispy roast potatoes, a rich gravy, and a generous helping of fluffy Yorkshire pudding. The cauliflower cheese, despite it’s simplicity, stood out to me for its tenderness and creamy cheese sauce. Coupled with the pub’s rustic charm and being surrounded by close friends, it was a birthday we all know we will remember fondly.

Maki & Ramen

Maki & Ramen offers a vibrant menu of fresh sushi, hand-rolled maki, and warming bowls of ramen. I ordered the tantan ramen, which was topped with minced pork, a soft-boiled egg, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. The heat from the chili and the richness from the peanut and sesame offered a satisfying combination of flavors. We ended the night with vanilla ice cream mochi and a warm matcha brownie, serving as a cherry on top of an already satisfying meal.

Hyde Park Book Club

This one is probably my favorite because of its laid-back, creative atmosphere. Hyde Park Book Club is a unique combination of cafe, bar, and social hub. It offers freshly prepared dishes such as scrambled eggs on sourdough and tacos, along with a variety of coffee and drinks. Hyde Park Book Club is also a popular venue for live music, arts events, and open mic nights, making it a perfect place to enjoy the local arts scene. With its warm, inviting atmosphere and delicious food, it is a place you can easily spend hours chilling with friends or sipping on coffee while studying.
