The ISA JournalFall in the Gothic City of Girona

On a cold and rainy day in November, we spent the day in the old town of Girona. It is the perfect place to experience the fall weather with the leaves changing. The mossy plants contrast the dark and damp stone walls.

The ‘Torre de Carlemany’ is shown here at the side view of the Girona Cathedral. At the top rests a metal angel.
Students arrived on the modern side of the river, crossing over a bridge into the old town. Beautiful bright-colored buildings line the riverside.
The Basílica de Sant Feliu is the first thing you can see when entering the city with its iconic gothic facade. The dark clouds and branches create the perfect setting for such a grand church.
The front of the Girona Cathedral seems to glow with its bright and detailed facade contrasting the dark stone steps. It’s quite a trek to the top, although well worth climbing a whopping 91 steps.
This beautiful door leads to the inside of the Cathedral. It is found by the side of the building after walking up the famous steps.
Near the city center is this foot sculpture as well as one of a fly. The fly is a great symbol in Girona, and if you touch these sculptures, it is said that they will give you luck or grant you a wish.
This gorgeous bright-red bridge leads you back from the old town into the newer part of the city with popular plazas and cafes. This pop of color, along with the buildings lining the river manage to brighten the dark aesthetic of the gothic architecture.
Students were then brought to the Dalí Museum, since the famous artist grew up in Girona. Shown is a painting he did of his city.
Much of the museum is covered by his popular human figures. Made identifiable as his work by their square faces.
The museum is an incredibly grand show of his talent with one room even being a life-sized sculpture of one of his paintings. if you climb up a ladder, you can look through an eyeglass to see a smaller version.
The top floor of the museum is dedicated to his sketches inspired by novels. Most notably his collection of Don Quixote drawings.
In this room, Dalí painted himself and his wife jumping into the ocean that is the subconscious. Dalí believed that’s where his greatest art was found, deep in the subconscious world.
ISA students pose under Dalí and his wife, looking as if we are being stepped on. This photo also completed our trip and we heading back to Barcelona.

Thank you all for reading my blog, and I hope you enjoyed the beautiful views as much as I did!
