Are 24 hours in Dublin enough?

Disha Dhananjay ’26 is a Law major studying at FIE in London, England in the Dual City Florence + London program this Summer 2024.

Flights from the London Luton Airport non-stop to Dublin can be as cheap as $50 per person, which means a weekend trip (or a day trip in my case) can be a great option while studying abroad in London!! I will say that the Luton airport had terrible lines, much worse than i could have expected, so with that in mind leave an extra hour early if possible.

I flew in to Dublin on a Thursday night and my return flight was Friday night. As soon as we landed in Dublin we ubered to our hotel to drop our bags off. I recommend a Premier inn near Temple Bar or Trinity College area. It is very central to everything and a great hotel! We were starving at this point so we headed over to the Temple bar area to grab a couple slices of pizza at Bambinos before it closed. And I do have to say it was some of the best pizza I have had. Which I did not expect from Dublin.

At this point you will be a very short walk from the infamous Temple Bar. We walked over to grab a drink and end our night off in the area. Even later at night Temple Bar is always busy and we felt very safe. However, I do still recommend ubering as much as possible at night if you are not a short walk from your destination.

The next morning we woke up to get an early start. We started off with breakfast at RóCo Cafe. I really recommend the hot chocolate, house soup and scones. Everything we ordered was amazing and fresh, wish I could go back! We then made our way over to Trinity College for our morning timeslot of Book of Kells. Make sure to buy your tickets in advance online and you can purchase student tickets. We did the long library and book section first and then we didn’t realize our tickets included the immersive experience as well. It is the big red structure in one of the gardens, we almost missed it but make sure you don’t! The immersive experience was one of the best part of the book of Kells and we wish we had done it first to learn the history behind the book and then see it in person.

We then made our way over to Grafton Street and the surrounding area to do some shopping. There are a ton of cool vintage shops, book stores and gift shops to visit. We spent a good chunk of time walking in this area and exploring all the cute little streets of Dublin. We got lunch at Boss Stop, a great Asian restaurant that had amazing soup and noodles to warm us up on a colder day.

By this time it was around 4pm and we had a 5pm ticket for the Guinness Storehouse. It is a little bit of a longer walk from Grafton street are but certainly doable. I also recommend making sure that you do buy your ticket in advance online and book a timeslot so that you do not have to wait in any lines. The entire experience and tour was very cool and very worth the ticket price. The gravity bar at the end on the top floor was also a highlight as you get a 360 view of all of Dublin.

After finishing up Guinness it was time to head to back to the airport, and we got an uber straight from Guinness to the Dublin airport. While, yes, if we had more time we could’ve explored EVERYTHING Dublin has to offer and ventured into the countryside/suburbs, I think 24 hours gave us just enough time to see the main attractions the city has to offer!
