CS student (19) stressed about career path – how do I avoid becoming an NPC and find a fulfilling and lucrative path?

I’m a 19-year-old CS student trying to figure out my future career, and I’m kinda stressed all the time thinking about certifications, internships, getting a master’s degree blah blah blah. I love building and improving things, but the job market’s got me worried with all the layoffs and overhyping of stuff that just keeps falling flat on its face (AI or whatever shell of the actual meaning of AI it is, is probably next and that’s when NVIDIA’s stock will definitely go downhill).

I know I don’t want to get into web or app development – that field’s crazy overcrowded, Cybersecurity doesn’t interest me, and I’m hesitant about AI development too. Every success story seems to be someone who knew the right tech at the right time and for the life of me I can’t seem to figure out what’s next without being a crazy sceptic because I don’t want to become another idiot who fell for something as stupid as NFTs, I feel like AI might become the next full-stack craze – super popular now, but potentially oversaturated by the time I graduate especially fields like ML and DS.

What really concerns me is how the job market’s turning into this massive depressing rat race, at this point, everyone knows that the middle class is shrinking, the wealth gap’s growing, and I’ll be entering the workforce in the next 5-10 years, I don’t want to end up struggling just to get by.

So, I’m looking for advice on choosing a less common but still potentially lucrative and fulfilling path in CS, or it can even be nothing related to CS at all. I’d especially love to hear from people who are actually happy with their careers and making a satisfying amount of money and are generally just happy not looking at the news 24/7 because most of your money comes from something like stock exchange, look no offence to the stock market nerds but I refuse to put my money with something that I have no god damn control over! Like if the market is good, it is good, if it crashes “Oh no! Bad luck I guess.” I don’t want to be that guy but I am open to suggestions if from what limited knowledge I do have I turn out to be wrong. How did you find your niche? What advice would you give to someone in my position?

Thanks in advance for any insights. This has been living rent-free in my head for a while now, and anyone willing to discuss it in detail feel free to request for my socials to dm with me.

TLDR: Wtf can Gen-Z do to realistically survive WW3 safely in their personal apocalypse shelters?
