The library I would like to describe is the DU library in my hometown, located not very far from city centres like Connaught place, Kamla Nagar, etc. While the building is not too huge, it has a classic architectural style, something that reminds me of what the world must have been like decades ago.
- Why did you visit this library?
I have visited this library on numerous occasions, primarily for academic and research purposes. As a university student, I have found the library to be an invaluable resource for accessing a wide range of academic journals, books, and other materials that have been essential for my studies and research projects.
- How do you know about this library?
I first became aware of the university library while preparing for my master’s application. It was recommended to me by my professors as a go-to resource for conducting in-depth research. Over time, I have become quite familiar with the layout and organization of the library, as well as the services and resources it offers.
- Explain your experience in this library
My experience has been memorable. One of the things I appreciate most about the library is the vast collection of books, journals, and other resources available. Moreover, this library has provided me and my friends shelter a lot of times!

Nestled in the heart of Old Delhi, just a stone’s throw away from the iconic Jama Masjid stands the Hardayal Municipal Heritage Public Library – a true gem of a place that has captured my imagination since childhood. This building reminds me of my ancestral family who lived in Old Delhi and how valuable it has proved to be for all the generations.

As a student of history and literature, I have been drawn to the Hardayal Municipal Heritage Public Library like a moth to a flame. Its unparalleled collection of rare manuscripts, ancient texts, and valuable artefacts has been an invaluable resource for my research and academic pursuits, offering a window into the rich cultural heritage of Delhi and the surrounding region.

I first learned about the Hardayal Municipal Heritage Public Library when I started going to school. Hearing stories about my elders visiting the library, I was excited to see it for myself one day. Hence, I made it a point to visit the library during my summer breaks, and I’ve been a regular visitor ever since, drawn by the library’s unique nostalgic charm.

Tucked away in the quaint streets of Pondicherry, a charming little library stole my heart from the moment I stepped inside. This cosy haven of books and knowledge exuded a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a delightful retreat for book lovers and seekers of quiet inspiration.
- Why did you go there?
As a lover of literature, I found myself drawn to this library. Its collection of books, ranging from classic novels to local poetry, offered me a refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, allowing me to immerse myself in stories and ideas that transported me to different worlds.
- How do you know about this library?
I stumbled upon this hidden gem during a stroll through Pondicherry’s charming streets. The library’s colourful facade and welcoming ambience pulled me right in, where I discovered a vast collection of old penguin classics.
- Explain your experience in this library
The friendly librarian, with a twinkle in their eye and a passion for storytelling, guided me to hidden gems and shared recommendations that resonated with my soul. I was so happy to have discovered magazines from the 70s and 80s! I felt like I had travelled back in time. All in all, i genuinely believe that reading a book is no less than travelling the world.

While e-books offer convenience, I believe physical books have a special charm that can’t be replaced. Each format has its unique appeal, and both can coexist to cater to different preferences.

I adore spending time at libraries! They offer a peaceful environment for reading, studying, and getting in touch with yourself. With the hustle and bustle that comes with living in a metropolitan city like Delhi, libraries can be wonderful.

Yes, I know of a few local libraries around my house. However, with the emergence of mobile phones and the internet, very few people flock to these libraries which has caused them to now cease operations.
5. What is your favourite section at a library?
My favourite section at a library is the fiction area. I love getting lost in captivating stories, reading someone else’s figment of imagination, and exploring the art of storytelling in its various forms.
