From Study Abroad to a Career in International Education: My Journey as a Partnerships Specialist

The path from student to professional is rarely a straight line. For me, it began with exchange semester in Finland, which sparked a passion for international education that would shape the course of my career. Today, as a Partnership Specialist at Asia Exchange, I have the privilege of helping other students embark on their own global adventures. Just as I did. This is the story of my journey from a student to a fulfilling career in international education.

Finding My Path: From A Student to Professional in Finland

Looking back on my journey, it’s clear that my exchange semester in Finland was a turning point. As a master’s student at Rennes Business School, I had the opportunity to study at SAMK in Pori, Finland. This experience turned out to be life-changing in ways I couldn’t expect.

My time in Finland, made me fell in love with the country, the culture, the way of life, and the stunning landscapes that change with the seasons. By the end of my studies, I knew I didn’t want to leave. I decided to make Finland my home.

After moving to Tampere, I started to search for a job that would allow me to stay in Finland while also leveraging my skills and experiences. I came across a job posting from Asia Exchange, an organization dedicated to promoting international education. They were looking for an engagement specialist to develop the French market. This career opportunity felt like it was made for me. Combining my background in business, using my mother tongue and my personal experience to motivate student to spend a semester or more abroad.

Building career at Asia Exchange

After three years, I’m proud to say I’m the Partnership Specialist for France at Asia Exchange. My role involves creating and nurturing partnerships with French universities and promote Asia Exchange’s programs to their students. I also get to travel extensively, both within France and to other countries. All of this while attending Education Fairs like EAIE or NAFSA and meeting students who are eager to explore the world.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is hearing the stories of students who have embarked on their own international adventures through Asia Exchange. This year, 450 French students are experiencing a semester abroad! Knowing that I played a part in making that possible is incredibly fulfilling. Their stories remind me of my own journey and the impact that studying abroad can have on a person’s life.

I often find myself wishing I could be an exchange student again, just to experience some of the amazing universities we partner with. For now, I’m content knowing that my career is helping to open the world to the next generation of students, just as my study abroad semester did for me.
