Go Abroad ranks USAC Cork study abroad program as the top 3rd program worldwide for STEM studies
One of the leading search engines for international travel programs, Go Abroad, published a list of the top nine study abroad programs for students searching for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses. University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) achieved 3rd place for Cork, Ireland, for the extensive academic options and sustainability initiatives of its host university, the University College Cork (UCC).
Students can perfect their skills for creative problem-solving in classes at one of the oldest universities in Ireland. A constituent of the National University of Ireland, the UCC is known for being the world’s first Green Campus and has established campus- and community-based climate action initiatives. Each year, more than 24,000 students choose from courses across the four colleges: Arts, Celtic Studies, and Social Sciences; Business and Law; Medicine and Health; and Science, Engineering, and Food Science.
Budding scientists in the fields of biochemistry, biology, chemistry, environmental science, plant sciences, and more seek solutions in state-of-the-art laboratories on campus. Engineers put these concepts into action to invent tools and infrastructure through courses in biotechnology, civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, energy engineering, mechanical engineering, and other practical fields. Math lovers gravitate toward the patterns found in data analysis and study physics and statistics.
USAC Cork alumni often praise their study abroad experiences on Go Abroad. For example, Brook K., from a college in the Pacific Northwest, studied in Cork for the variety of course offerings, but it turned out to be much more than that.
“I chose to study abroad in Cork because they had a robust set of course offerings, but ultimately, I gained so much more than some additional classes on my transcript,” she said online. “I made many friends within my USAC program and UCC classes. There is a large international community at UCC, which enhanced my abroad experience even more. I participated in the vegan club, film club and went to many rugby games. … I can’t say enough good things about my experiences with USAC and UCC while studying abroad in Cork!”
