Describe a Person Who Loves Buying things at Low Prices: IELTS Cue Card | Admissify

The IELTS, which stands for International English Language Testing System, is a test that has been made to evaluate the language skills of people who are not native speakers of English. It examines how well an individual can communicate using this particular type of communication across four main parts: listening, reading, and writing and speaking abilities. The IELTS test is widely acknowledged by universities, businesses, and immigration offices from all over the world because it’s seen as a dependable gauge for competency in the English language. Three parties: the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge Assessment English own and manage the test. The scoring system goes from 1 to 9 numbers, where a higher score means better proficiency. IELTS holds an important place for people who want to study, work, or move permanently to countries that use the English language.

IELTS Speaking Part 2- Cue Card

The IELTS Speaking Part 2 cue card is a prompt given to test-takers during the speaking exam. It provides a specific topic that candidates must speak about for 1-2 minutes. The cue card outlines key points to cover, such as describing an event, object, or experience in detail. Candidates have 1 minute to prepare their response after receiving the cue card. This part of the test evaluates the ability to speak at length on a particular subject, using appropriate vocabulary and coherent discourse. The examiner then asks follow-up questions to assess the candidate’s English-speaking abilities further. Effective preparation for this part is crucial for a high band score.

Example 1: Describe a person who loves buying things at low prices.

Introduction

We all enjoy buying things at lower prices but good quality. Considering the currently exorbitant market, it is justified as well. For the cue card topic “Describe a person you know who loves buying things at low prices”, I would like to talk about a person who I very closely know.

Who is this person?

The person I am talking about here is my mother. Since childhood, I have seen my mother buy things cheaply. She is a savvy shopper with an uncanny ability to sniff out bargains wherever she goes. She will either bargain with the shopkeeper or go straight to the wholesaler to buy things she needs, as they charge less than the retailers.

Why he/she do this?

She does this primarily to save money. I asked her why she spends so stiffly and her answer will always stick with me. She said that if we spend less money now, we will have money saved up for thick and thin situations in the future. Along with this, she said many shopkeepers are looting customers by overcharging them. Hence she bargains a lot to get the commodities at reasonable prices.

How he/she do this?

My mother as mentioned earlier follows two processes. First, she will bargain with the seller to get stuff at a reasonable price. Second, she goes to the wholesaler and buys things she requires at a relatively low price.

Conclusion

I admire and appreciate this habit of my mother as it taught me the value of money and we must always spend it mindfully. Additionally, it also honed my bargaining skills which will be of great use after I grow up.

Example 2: Describe a person who loves buying things at low prices.

Introduction

We often dream of lavish lives full of luxury products and items. Everyone in the world has dreamt of this. However many of us, especially the middle class end up storing this dream in the back closet and just try to earn a living. In today’s market, there are many ways to live this luxurious lifestyle without spending a fortune. Today I am going to talk about one such person who loves to buy things at low prices.

Who this person is?

The person I am talking about here is my childhood friend Aakriti. She has always had a knack for fashion and lifestyle but growing up in a financially crunched surrounding she was not able to live the lifestyle she always wanted. However, there was a huge change in her lifestyle once she joined college.

Why he/she do this?

She does this to live a luxurious lifestyle without having to spend a lot of money on it. This way she saves money to spend on other things and live a balanced life.

How he/she do this?

Adria has been able to do budget shopping by applying various tips and tricks. She always keeps an eye on sales at her favourite stores. She prefers street shopping over in-store shopping as she can bargain a lot on the streets. In addition to this, she also prefers purchasing stuff online as they are available at a lower price and she can avail of many discounts as well.

Conclusion

This talent of Adria taught me ways of doing budget-friendly shopping. I also learned a lot about bargaining from her. Along with this she also took me to several places which sell branded products at a very low price. I visit those places sometimes.

Example 3: Describe a person who loves buying things at low prices.

Introduction

Buying things at low prices might be a very tempting thing to do. However, it has many pros and cons. For the cue card topic, I am going to describe a person who loves buying things at low prices.

Who the person is?

The person I am talking about is my sister Sakshi. She loves to buy things at low prices.

Why he/she do this?

She does this to save money. However, this tactic does not always help her as once she got duped by the vendor she purchased products from.

How he/she does this?

She bargains a lot with the shopkeeper. Along with this she also believes in doing street shopping only because of the prices. However, because of the same reason a shopkeeper once sold her a knockoff of a branded mascara at a relatively cheap price. She was very happy after returning home. However, after applying the mascara, we had to rush her to the hospital as the product damaged her eyes with the cheap chemicals in it. She had to pay the hospital triple the mascara.

Conclusion

Buying products at low prices is a good thing but we must also keep the authenticity factor in mind always while purchasing products at low prices.

Follow-Up Questions for IELTS Cue Card Topic- Describe a person who loves buying things at low prices

Is it more about money issues or how this person likes to find cheap things?

I understand it as this person’s love for deal hunting is coming more from personal choices and the feeling of accomplishment that arises when they find a great bargain, rather than financial restrictions. It appears as if they relish in the excitement of discovering reduced-priced things, even if it’s not something needed at present.

In your thinking, is there any possible negative side or danger linked to always putting low prices first and not considering other things like quality or ethical aspects?

We all indeed want to get the best value for our money and sometimes this means looking for low prices. But focusing only on cost can have its risks too. Like other people said already, one of these risks is compromises on quality when going for cheaper items – they might not always be as long-lasting or dependable compared with more expensive alternatives. Moreover, very cheap goods may show a hidden danger – they are produced unfairly, possibly using workers who don’t get enough pay or materials that are not environmentally friendly.”

In what way does this person mostly learn about discounts, sales, or bargains? Do they use traditional methods like flyers and ads, or do they prefer to actively search for online deals found on social media?

This person seems to be a bargain hunter. They use both classic ways like looking at local flyers and newspaper ads, and modern methods by searching for deals online on different websites and social media groups that focus on sharing discounts and promotional offers.

Did you go shopping with this person for low-priced items? Please explain about the experience and methods they used to get the best deals.

Yes, I have gone with them on some bargain-hunting shopping excursions, and it has been an adventure. They generally begin by doing extensive price research online and creating a list of desired items along with their minimum prices. After this, they systematically go to various shops where they discuss with sellers about the cost or sometimes even bargain for better deals. B: Interestingly, you use the term “bargain-hunting”. I am not familiar with this kind of activity while shopping. Could you give me more details about how it works?

Could the chase for low prices turn out to be an obsession or addiction for some people? If yes, what could cause this and how can one manage a balanced approach?

Yes, the continuous chase for cheap things can turn into a kind of obsession or addiction for some people. Factors like the excitement of getting a good bargain, feelings of achievement, and even hidden psychological motivations such as hoarding traits or fear about running out could all play a role in this. It is very important to keep an appropriate balance by creating sensible budgets, giving importance to quality and ethical matters, and using self-control to prevent this habit from interfering with other significant parts of life.

If the candidate answers these follow-up questions with careful and substantial responses, they can show their skill in expressing well-thought-out viewpoints, participating in critical thinking, and effectively communicating about the topic.
