1. Tap into DU’s Student and Alumni Mentoring Platform Crimson Constellation
The University of Denver has launched a new on-line community that you can access that allows you to connect with DU students, alumni, and staff for mentoring and career networking. Here’s how to make the most of it:
- Join Crimson Constellation: Create a profile and include your interests
- Search Strategically: Use filters to find alumni in your desired industry, location, or company
- Gather Information: Take note of their career paths, current positions, and any commonalities you might share, such as a major or extracurricular activities.

2. Utilize LinkedIn’s Alumni Tool
LinkedIn is an excellent platform for connecting with DU alumni. The Alumni Tool can help you find and reach out to graduates who are now professionals in your field of interest.
- Create / Update Your LinkedIn profile: To use LinkedIn, you will need to have your own LinkedIn account. There are numerous resources available to you in creating/updating your LinkedIn profile including scheduling a 1:1 with your Career Advisor at Career and Professional Development.
- Navigate to LinkedIn using browser or on-line app: Log-in to your LinkedIn account. Search for the University of Denver LinkedIn page and click on the “Alumni” tab. Or click on this link.
- Filter Your Search: Use filters to narrow down alumni by company, industry, major, job function, or geographic location.

- Craft Your Request: Send a polite email or LinkedIn message requesting a brief informational interview. Mention how you found them and what you hope to learn.
- Prepare Thoughtful Questions: Focus on their career journey, industry insights, and any advice they might have for securing internships.
- Prepare Your Introduction: Have a concise pitch ready about who you are, what you’re studying, and what type of internship you’re seeking.
4. Follow Up and Stay Connected
- Maintaining relationships is key to successful networking. Here’s how to do it:
