Working nights alone at gas station, getting lied to already?

35m, in MI.

So I apply at a big gas station chain, and there’s a location hiring within walking distance of my home. Sounds great, I get an interview (1 of 2 in the last 6 months), and all seems well.

I’m told that I would make 14.50 plus a premium of $1 for working 3rd shift. Again, sounds good since I was looking for at least $15.

2 weeks later I get a rejection email from “Rita” the AI recruiter. With no reason given.

1 week later and I get a call back from my interviewer, and he asks “Are you still looking for work? What if it’s at a different location?”

I agree, since it’s still in my general area, and working 3rd shift means my vehicle sharing situation won’t be afffected. But when I show up for my first day, I realize it’s as far out of town as it could be (a 20min drive away), and in a decently sketchy area that I’m not at all familiar with.

On my first day, the assistant manager tried to get me to work the store alone so he could leave, while I waited for another person to show up (me thinking it would be my boss like I was told originally), and I said no, I don’t even know how to work these registers.

He sticks around until relief shows up. Relief is someone who doesn’t work at this store, and is there for the first time as well. So I’m being “trained” by someone totally unfamiliar with the store, cool.

Next shift, my boss shows up. He tells me I have to redo my entire application, since my onboarding paperwork got messed up somehow (this is after I had to do onboarding twice already due to an issue with my interviewer).

Now, I get a job offer in my email but for lower pay, being $14. I immediately say hold on, this isn’t the pay I was promised. My boss assured me he will get it fixed and “just accept that offer for now”.

I do, begrudgingly. And I have spent the last 2 weeks badgering him about when I will see this pay adjustment. He said “oh it hasn’t changed yet, let me talk with HR. You’ll definitely get back pay with your new wage.”

How long do I let him blow smoke up my ass about this before I quit?

I know the job market is tough, but this gas station only has 4 EMPLOYEES to run 24/7. It seems like they would be eager to get people in the door to work, but maybe not.

I feel like being lied to about the location I’d work at, THEN getting lied to about pay, is too much to tolerate.
